Two automatic meteorological stations commissioned in Gonyeli and Alaykoy in Northern Cyprus
The Meteorological Department under the Ministry of Public Works and Transport announced the commissioning of two automatic meteorological observation stations (AMOS) in Gonyeli and Alaykoy in Northern Cyprus. Installation and commissioning were completed last weekend, stated the department director, Sinan Güneş.
According to the department, the installation was carried out within the framework of a project with financial support from the European Union, in cooperation with the Municipality of Gonyeli-Alaykoy and the EU Coordination Center under the Prime Minister. The investment cost is approximately 7.5 million Turkish lira.
The new stations will regularly record meteorological parameters (temperature, precipitation, pressure, humidity, wind data, soil temperature, visibility, etc.), and their data will be stored for long-term climate change monitoring. After commissioning these facilities, the total number of automatic stations in the country reached 45.
The Meteorological Department also informed that a project to upgrade the remaining 43 stations has been prepared and submitted for approval to the relevant authorities. In addition, the new Weather Forecast Center building is nearing completion. The director thanked all participants involved in the project.
