Drug-Related Cases Increase in Northern Cyprus in 2024–2025
Turkish Cypriot media report a significant increase in drug trafficking and consumption cases in Northern Cyprus during the 2024–2025 period.
According to the newspaper "Kıbrıs," a total of 778 drug-related cases were handled by the "authorities" over the two-year span, resulting in the arrest of 1,168 suspects.
Statistics show a rising trend: from 340 cases in 2024 to 438 in 2025. A similar increase was recorded in arrests: from 508 in 2024 to 660 in 2025.
During operations, "police" seized over 140 kilograms of narcotic substances. The largest share of seizures was cannabis, totaling 118.3 kg. Additionally, more than 17,210 pills containing controlled substances were confiscated. Other seized substances included small quantities of cocaine, methamphetamine, synthetic drugs, heroin, and LSD.
Geographically, the highest number of cases and arrests was recorded in Nicosia and Kyrenia in Northern Cyprus.
