In Northern Cyprus, salaries are planned to be paid exclusively through banks

Minister of Labour and Social Security Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu announced the preparation of a large-scale draft law that will oblige private companies to pay salaries exclusively via bank accounts. This will allow the state to transparently track employees’ real incomes.
According to the minister, a system of professions and minimum wages is being developed in parallel: a lower salary threshold will be set for each specialty. “It is impossible for a specialist with 15 years of experience or an academic to receive the minimum wage,” he emphasized.
During discussions in parliament, CTP deputy Devrim Barçın criticized the state support of 2,000 lira, calling it a temporary measure and pointing out risks to the tax and insurance system. In response, the minister stated that the additional payment would come from a fund without tax deductions, and the employee would receive 12,000 lira “net”.
The draft law is expected to be submitted to parliament for consideration in the near future.
