Northern Cyprus is bracing for even hotter weather
The Meteorology Department of the TRNC has issued an emergency warning: in the coming days, Northern Cyprus will experience even more intense heat. According to meteorologists' forecasts, the maximum air temperature on the island will exceed 10-12 degrees Celsius.
The emergency warning due to the abnormal heat will be in effect in the country from 12:00 noon on Thursday, June 13, until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 15.
Over the next two days, the air temperature in inland areas will rise to 43 – 46 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists urge authorities and citizens to exercise caution and take measures to prevent possible incidents associated with high temperatures, such as forest fires and heat strokes.
It is also recommended to avoid working under the scorching sun without necessary precautions, especially during the hottest hours from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m.
It is worth noting that abnormally hot weather has persisted in Northern Cyprus for the second week. Several temperature records have been broken in the country. Due to excessively high temperatures, the TRNC has even imposed a three-day ban on working under the sun and established a special hotline to report violators.
Moreover, last week, several major forest fires occurred in the TRNC due to the hot weather. The most serious incidents took place near the Injirli Cave, as well as between the villages of Tatlısu and Mersinlik.
