An explosion occurred on a tanker off the coast of Famagusta, resulting in casualties
The incident took place last night near the port in Kaleshike on board the MT AQASIA tanker, which is owned by Turkey, flies the flag of Malta, and was transporting containers of fuel oil.
Following an inspection conducted on the vessel by the port administration of Famagusta, it was determined that a fuel barrel exploded on board the ship while a spiral machine was in operation.
According to the police statement, two people were injured in the explosion, diagnosed with superficial burns on their faces, as well as upper and lower limbs.
The injured were evacuated from the ship by the coast guard teams and transported under observation to the Famagusta State Hospital by ambulance.
The investigation is ongoing.
