Tourism Week in Northern Cyprus to Wrap Up with a Grand Festival in Famagusta
Tourism Week in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), celebrated from April 15 to 22, will conclude with a major festival in Famagusta. On this occasion, TRNC Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment, Fikri Ataoğlu, shared a public message highlighting the importance of tourism for both cultural heritage and environmental awareness.
In his statement, the minister invited all residents to join the Tourism Festival taking place on Saturday, April 19, at Namık Kemal Square in Famagusta.
“Tourism Week is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the natural beauty, cultural wealth, and warm hospitality of our country,” Ataoğlu said. “It also serves to emphasize the vital role tourism plays in our society.”
He described Northern Cyprus as the "shining star of the Mediterranean" — known for its crystal-clear waters, unspoiled bays, rich history, cultural diversity, and people-focused hospitality. “It is our shared duty to preserve, improve, and pass on this unique heritage to future generations in a sustainable way,” he added.
Ataoğlu also pointed out that tourism development doesn’t only benefit the travel and hospitality sector — it creates a positive ripple effect across agriculture, handicrafts, transportation, and even education.
“We are implementing a wide range of projects that promote alternative tourism models, celebrate local values, use digital channels effectively, and support environmentally responsible tourism,” he said.
The traditional Tourism Festival, held last year in Kyrenia’s Ancient Harbor, will be hosted this year in Famagusta, bringing the city to life with music, folk dances, and cultural performances throughout the day.
