The number with digits 001 was sold for 325,000 Turkish lira

With the increase in the number of vehicles in the TRNC, the old two-letter license plate system has reached its limits, and a new three-letter system has now been introduced. Special license plates under the new system are put up for auction. During the first such auction, the plate "001", which had a starting price of 24,000 Turkish lira, was sold for 325,000 lira.
Two-letter license plates had been used in the country for many years, but the rapid growth in the vehicle fleet led to a shortage of combinations. In response, a new three-letter system was introduced, which allows for the acquisition of special numbers through auctions organized by the Traffic Department of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.
The high price paid for the "001" plate clearly demonstrates the great interest of residents in the new license plate system.
