Lefke District Court Resumes Operation After Lengthy Renovation
In Lefke, the district court has resumed its operation after a lengthy renovation. It was closed for reconstruction in 2018 and relocated to Güzelyurt.
Recall that earlier, the Platform of Non-Governmental Organizations in Lefke requested the establishment of a Police Department and a District Court in the region. In a written statement, they reminded that Lefke became a separate district back in 2016.
Due to the increase in crime rates, the residents of Lefke emphasized the importance of holding court sessions in the city center building as soon as possible.
It is also noted that today, Lefke is a district with a population of about 30,000 people, including EUL students and foreign nationals permanently residing here.
Today, the premises finally opened its doors after reconstruction, which began back in 2018.
The Coordinator of the Lefke Civil Society Platform, Teoman Oktay, stated that the reconstruction of the Lefke District Court took a long time.
The activist also emphasized that prolonging the solution to Lefke's problems for many years is unacceptable. Now, local residents are awaiting the opening of other institutions in Lefke, including their own police department, land registry office, and district governor's office.
