Meat Shops Under Inspection Ahead of Eid al-Adha in Northern Cyprus
With the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha (Kurban Bayram) approaching, inspections of meat shops are being conducted across Northern Cyprus. The İskele municipality is among the first to review butchers’ licenses and documents.
Authorities have increased their oversight of hygiene standards, meat storage conditions, and licensing in meat shops and food service establishments.
These inspections are carried out by the Department of Environmental Protection and Health to protect public safety and ensure that food products are safe to consume.
During the inspections, officials check hygiene compliance, meat storage conditions, price tags, licenses, and sanitary certificates at all meat shops, markets, restaurants, and hotels.
Slaughterhouse staff have been given a deadline to submit animal health certificates. The Department has set a one-week period to publish a list of workers and butchers who will be authorized to slaughter animals at the municipal slaughterhouse in İskele, which will operate during the first two days of Eid al-Adha.
So far, no violations have been reported. The public can reach the Department 24/7 via the hotline at 0548 10 11 01.
As a reminder, Eid al-Adha will be celebrated this year on June 6.
