Northern Cyprus carriers warn of problems due to rising fuel prices
The Chairman of the Cyprus Turkish Public Transporters Union (Kıbrıs Türk Toplu Taşımacılar Birliği), Beksan Bekir Akandere, stated that the latest increase in fuel prices is creating serious problems for the transport and service sectors.
According to him, fuel accounts for the bulk of carriers' expenses, and the new prices could push some companies to the brink of shutting down.
Akandere noted that under current conditions, businesses may be forced to lay off staff, reduce the number of trips, and limit services.
He also warned that a price hike for services might become inevitable if support measures are not implemented.
According to the head of the association, without economic aid and specific solutions, the crisis will affect not only carriers but society as a whole.
