Beaches in Northern Cyprus Remain Dirty Despite Cleanup Efforts
Efforts to clean up beaches in Northern Cyprus are ongoing. Despite the hard work of volunteers and activists, the situation at designated swimming areas remains unchanged: there is still a significant amount of litter.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment, beach cleanup operations will continue throughout the summer to maintain cleanliness and ensure they are suitable for leisure activities.
Earlier reports indicated that the beach cleanup campaign in Northern Cyprus began in early July. This annual environmental initiative is organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment.
As part of these efforts, five teams of enthusiastic young people have been cleaning the beaches twice daily, both in the morning and evening. Cleanup activities have been focused on four regions: Famagusta, Iskele, Yeniboğaziçi, and Tatlısu. Despite these efforts, the outcomes have been disappointing.
“Despite cleaning efforts twice a day, the situation with beach litter has not improved in terms of the amount collected or the overall appearance,” stated the Ministry of Tourism.
Previously, water quality checks were conducted on 59 beaches in Northern Cyprus.
