Sheep Thieves in Northern Cyprus Spent Money in Casino
Today, four individuals appeared in court in Northern Cyprus, suspected of stealing sheep in Akıncılar. The money obtained from selling the stolen animals was allegedly spent by the accused in a casino.
The defendants on trial are Ahmet Gezdigeldi, Kemal Ozkan, Ediz Diker, and Emre Dolat. They are accused of stealing animals from Margot Farm in Akıncılar.
According to the investigation, the thefts occurred between May 25 and June 4, 2024. The four suspects entered the dairy farm for the last time, broke the locks at the warehouse, loaded 26 lambs into a car, and drove away.
During the pursuit, the culprits threw four lambs out of the car. The rest of the stolen animals were never found.
Two of the suspects were arrested and brought to court on June 8, where they were remanded for three days. On June 9, the third accused was arrested, and on the same day, the fourth perpetrator surrendered to the police.
Two of the accused confessed that on May 25, they stole four lambs from the same farm and sold them for 18,000 lira. They gambled away most of the money they received at a casino in Kyrenia, while the rest was spent on food.
The police received numerous complaints about sheep theft from the same region after news of the lamb abduction spread on social media. The police are investigating the complaints. For further investigation, the police requested to detain the suspects for an additional three days. The judge supported this decision.
