Fires and Rescue Operations: Weekly Damage Exceeds 800 Thousand Lira
According to the Fire Department, over the past week, 4 fires and 19 emergency service calls were recorded across the country, resulting in total material damage of approximately 810 thousand Turkish lira.
The department reported that fires occurred in the districts of Güzelyurt, Çağlayan, Geçitkale, and Yeşilköy. The suspected causes of the fires were short circuits as well as deliberate arson by unknown individuals.
In addition, fire units were repeatedly called to so-called "special operations," which included:
- rescuing people trapped in elevators and basement floors of buildings;
- evacuating a person found unconscious in their own home;
- taking preventive measures to prevent fires;
- extracting victims trapped in vehicles after traffic accidents;
- conducting fire safety briefings;
- transporting deceased bodies to hospitals for forensic procedures.
Of the 19 special responses, 11 occurred in Lefkoşa, two each in Güzelyurt and Gazimağusa, and the rest in the districts of İskele, Girne, Geçitkale, and Çağlayan.
The Fire Department reminds the public of the need to follow fire safety measures and to contact emergency services promptly.
