Chairman of the Businessmen’s Association: the number of car dealerships is growing in Northern Cyprus due to legal loopholes
The Chairman of the Businessmen’s Association, Enver Mamyulju, stated on January 8, 2026, on the air of Kıbrıs TV that the number of car dealerships in Northern Cyprus has increased significantly and in some areas there are more of them than grocery stores.
Mamyulju noted that on the street where he lives there are 15 car dealerships. According to him, this situation is facilitated by legal loopholes that are exploited by cartels and unscrupulous individuals. He also drew attention to recent cases of shootings at car dealerships and the renewed discussion of money laundering issues associated with this.
Mamyulju called for the elimination of “open gaps” in the legislation, emphasizing that existing regulations should not be left without attention. During his speech, he questioned the effectiveness of entry and exit record-keeping procedures, stating that inspections are difficult to apply if there are minors among those arriving.
The statements were made in the context of ongoing investigations into incidents related to car dealerships. The comments of the head of the Businessmen’s Association indicate the need to review the regulatory framework, which may affect subsequent steps by the authorities and law enforcement agencies in Northern Cyprus.
