TRNC Prime Minister: Güzelyurt Remains One of the Country's Key Regions
The Prime Minister of Northern Cyprus, Ünal Üstel, stated that the Güzelyurt region is of great importance to the country, and as such, the government is implementing a series of infrastructure and social projects there.
Üstel visited the village of Şahinler to review the progress of infrastructure works in rural housing areas and met with residents of the Aşağı Bostancı district.
According to the Prime Minister, the authorities aim to create conditions for young people to stay and work in the region, noting that many residents previously left Güzelyurt due to economic hardships and prolonged political discussions surrounding the area.
Üstel also noted that the government has taken measures to support the citrus industry, and this year, according to him, producers received some of the highest prices in history.
Several major projects are also underway in the region:
- Construction of the new Güzelyurt hospital,
- Creation of a cold storage facility for agricultural products,
- Launch of a wholesale agricultural market (hal) next to it,
- Construction of social housing, planned for completion by July.
The Prime Minister reminded that the government has also launched the "My First Home" low-interest loan program to help young families purchase housing.
Güzelyurt Mayor Mahmut Özçınar stated that the Şahinler area is gradually becoming a promising residential district and could serve as an example of a modern social housing complex.
