The President of the Market Association Compared Food Prices in the Republic of Cyprus and Northern Cyprus

The President of the Market Association, Fuat Nalcıoğlu, stated that basic food prices in the Republic of Cyprus are 30.8% higher than the EU average, while cleaning products, personal hygiene items, and some staple foods are cheaper in the North, and imported food and beverages are cheaper in the "South".
According to data collected by Nalcıoğlu, cleaning products, hygiene items, and certain staple goods are cheaper in Northern Cyprus compared to the Republic of Cyprus. The price difference reaches up to 50 percent, especially for cleaning chemicals. Locally produced milk and dairy products are also about 10 percent cheaper in the North.
In contrast, the Republic of Cyprus stands out in the category of imported foods and drinks. While imported cheeses and dairy products are 20 percent cheaper, the price difference for products like coffee and cornflakes reaches 30 percent. Alcoholic and carbonated beverages are also more affordable in the Republic of Cyprus.
Items cheaper in Northern Cyprus:
- Household chemicals: 50%;
- Cleaning supplies (sponges, cloths, etc.): 30%;
- Local milk and dairy products: 10%;
- Basic food basket (bread, flour, legumes): 5%;
- Cosmetics and personal care products: 15%;
- Fruit drinks: 5%.
Items cheaper in the Republic of Cyprus:
- Imported cheeses and dairy products: 20%;
- Alcoholic beverages: 10%;
- Carbonated soft drinks: 15%;
- Biscuits and chocolate: 15%;
- Cornflakes and imported coffee: 30%.
