President of TRNC Meets with UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy in London
President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Ersin Tatar, met in London with María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar, the personal representative of the UN Secretary-General. The Colombian diplomat will present her report to the head of the organization on July 10.
The meeting, which took place at the TRNC representative office in London, lasted one hour. President Tatar was accompanied by his special representative, Güneş Onar.
After the meeting, Ersin Tatar told journalists that the Turkish side once again demonstrated its position on the Cyprus issue and thanked the UN envoy for her efforts in seeking common ground.
However, the Turkish Cypriot leader added that at this stage, the parties still do not have a unified position on the Cyprus issue. A new negotiation process can not be undertaken due to the uncompromising stance of the Greek Cypriot administration.
Ersin Tatar also addressed recent developments in property ownership, stating that the solution to property issues lies with the Immovable Property Commission.
President Tatar further claimed that the Greek Cypriot administration had conducted an “organized attack” on people investing in the construction sector of Northern Cyprus, using the judicial system as a tool for this policy. He provided UN envoy Holguín with information on these developments.
He added that the proper address for property ownership issues is the Immovable Property Commission, which is recognized by the European Court of Human Rights.
It's worth noting that last week, the Colombian diplomat met in Brussels with the head of the Greek Cypriot administration, Nikos Christodoulides.
