Completion of TRNC Underwater Power Supply Project from Turkey Expected Within Five Years
The "Project of the Century," which involves laying an underwater electrical cable from Turkey to Northern Cyprus, is planned to be completed within five years. This was announced by the Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Ersan Saner.
Speaking on Wednesday at the Parliament session on the budget, the head of the government expressed hope that the implementation of this ambitious project would commence in 2024.
"The 'Project of the Century' related to electricity, I hope, will begin in 2024 and will be completed within 5 years," stated the Prime Minister.
Ersan Saner also referred to the departing year 2023 as the "year of realizing revolutionary projects." One of the major infrastructure projects he highlighted was the opening of the new Ercan Airport.
The Prime Minister also discussed the reform of local governance in the country, which occurred following the reduction of municipalities from 28 to 18 based on the results of municipal elections in December of the previous year.
According to the Prime Minister, 2024 will be the year when "young people will easily become homeowners" due to the launch of a social housing project in the TRNC.
"Thanks to the reduction in inflation, the purchasing power of our citizens will begin to grow. In 2024, all production-based sectors will receive even greater support from the state," promised the Prime Minister.
