KTOES union held a protest and declared a strike in Northern Cyprus

The education workers’ union KTOES held a protest and declared a strike, reports columnist Levent Ozadam in the newspaper Kıbrıs Postası dated November 12, 2025.
According to the publication, earlier the Council of Ministers imposed a ban on strikes for trade unions, which was one of the reasons for the participants’ dissatisfaction. During the protests, there was an incident involving an egg thrown toward the prime minister’s building.
According to the author, the strike disrupted the educational process and also affected students’ right to education.
The column also highlights the condition of school buildings: after the earthquake on February 6, about 100 educational facilities were declared potentially dangerous, but only a small number were repaired, despite the previously established fund of 1 billion.
The situation causes concern among residents and educators — due to possible interruptions in the educational process and lack of transparency in funding for school infrastructure repairs.
