Teachers' union in Northern Cyprus accused the "Ministry of Education" of data transfer and problems in schools
The KTOEÖS secondary school teachers’ union has made new accusations against the "Ministry of Education" in Northern Cyprus, citing system violations and safety issues in school buildings. The information was published by the newspaper «Αβρούπα» on September 4; the statement was made by the union’s general secretary, Tahir Gökçebel.
According to Gökçebel, a trainer invited to conduct training seminars on behalf of the "Ministry" publicly insulted Turkish Cypriot teachers. He also claimed that the "Ministry" uses the Turkish platform MEBİS, through which, according to him, teachers’ personal data is transferred to the embassy.
In addition, the union pointed out several systemic problems: placement of containers for new schools without open tenders, overcrowded classes, and lack of seismic inspections in at least 30% of school buildings. Gökçebel noted that, against this backdrop, the announcement about creating a "theological college" in Famagusta looks particularly provocative.
As a protest, KTOEÖS recently placed a black wreath at the building of the "Ministry of Education". For island residents with relatives or contacts in the Northern Cyprus education system, it is important to follow further official statements and reports regarding the safety of school buildings and the protection of personal data.
