Trade Unions in Northern Cyprus Threaten Strike Due to Tax Increases
Five trade unions in the TRNC representing the public sector have threatened a general strike. The action, aimed at protesting against tax regulations, will take place on Wednesday at 10:00 in front of the Prime Minister's residence.
Three Cypriot-Turkish unions of public servants, namely KTAMS, Kamu-İş, KAMUSEN, the Cyprus Turkish Union of Teachers (KTÖS), and the Cyprus Turkish Union of Secondary Education Teachers (KTOEÖS), will participate in the protest.
In a joint statement signed by the president of KTOEÖS, Selma Eylem, it is noted that despite negotiations and warnings, the government insists on increasing the tax rate to 40 percent.
If the decision to raise the income tax rate is submitted to the committee for consideration, the trade unions will decide on a general strike.
