Five trade unions to hold protest march in Lefkoşa
Five trade unions operating in the public sector of Northern Cyprus have announced a protest march to be held today at 09:30. The action is being organized in protest against the failure to update tax thresholds and personal tax allowances, as well as the absence of an increase in the minimum wage in line with inflation.
A statement on behalf of the trade unions was made by Güven Bengihan, chairman of KİEF and KTAMS. He noted that the action would also serve as a response to a planned press conference by Prime Minister Ünal Üstel dedicated to evaluating the government’s performance.
According to Bengihan, the following unions will participate in the action:
- KTAMS
- KAMUSEN
- KTOEÖS
- KTÖS
- KAMU-İŞ
Participants will gather at the Metehan roundabout, after which they will march to the traffic lights near Citroen and the Prime Minister’s Office building. The leadership bodies of the trade unions will take part in the action.
The trade unions emphasize that ignoring inflation and the lack of fair tax adjustments directly affect the incomes of public sector workers and require immediate solutions.
