Work accident on a vessel in Girne: man in intensive care

A serious accident occurred at the tourist port of Girne on a moored cargo-passenger vessel. On Thursday, 28 November, at around 16:10, two employees — 53-year-old A.S. and 35-year-old Ş.K. — were trying to fix an oil leak in the hydraulic system of a vehicle lift.
According to the police, the hydraulic pump was opened before the internal pressure had been fully released. As a result, an explosion occurred: A.S., who was on a forklift, fell from a height of about 2.44 metres onto a metal surface and sustained severe injuries. He was taken to Near East Hospital, where he was placed in the intensive care unit.
As part of the investigation, 35-year-old Ş.K., whose actions were classified as suspected negligence, was arrested. The police continue to examine the circumstances of the incident and compliance with safety regulations on the vessel.
