Heavy rain and hail in Girne: the mayor reported on the situation and responded to criticism

Girne experienced a severe weather episode in the evening: heavy rain hit the city, and in some areas hail the size of a walnut fell.
Mayor of Girne Murat Şenkul stated that municipal teams were quickly dispatched to the flooded areas. According to him, in several districts the water level temporarily rose, but within 15 minutes it was reported that no serious problems remained in the city overall.
Şenkul noted that the number of problematic spots has decreased compared to the past, but around ten districts still require major infrastructure investments.
Commenting on the sharp criticism directed at the city, the mayor asked: “When will we stop mercilessly criticizing our own country?” — pointing out that similar weather incidents occur in other regions as well, but the reaction to events in Girne is often disproportionate.
He concluded his address with the words: “We will continue to do our job.”
