Scandal in Iskele: woman accused a “traffic inspector” of bribery
A scandal erupted in the Iskele area regarding the activities of so-called voluntary traffic inspectors. A 53-year-old woman, identified by the initials S.F., told the police that an incident occurred between her and a man claiming to be an inspector. According to her, he cut off her car and demanded one thousand lira, threatening to hand over video footage to the police if she refused.
However, the investigation revealed that no such events took place. The woman gave false statements, and her actions were classified as intentional deception aimed at creating public disorder.
According to official data, voluntary traffic inspectors are not authorized to check drivers’ documents and do not have the right to interact directly with citizens. Their duties are limited to recording violations that pose a safety risk on the roads and forwarding information to the police. Therefore, they perform strictly an auxiliary function and cannot take coercive measures.
The incident caused widespread public concern. Residents are worried about potential abuses by individuals pretending to be inspectors, while authorities emphasize that the law clearly regulates their powers.
The police reminded that providing knowingly false statements carries criminal liability. The public calls for greater transparency in the work of voluntary traffic inspectors and for informing citizens of their rights and responsibilities in such cases.
