Village Elder on the Karpas Peninsula Calls for the Destruction of All Donkeys on the Island
The village elder of Avtepe in Karpas has called for the eradication of all donkeys on the island. According to the Muhtar, the animals are causing significant damage to crops and agriculture in the region.
Rezvan Inlen, the head of Avtepe, shared a video on social media, expressing his frustration over the destruction donkeys are causing to his crops. Following his second appeal, which reminded the public of the recent brutal killing of 15 donkeys in Karpas, he demanded the complete elimination of all donkeys on the island.
"I don't believe they offer any value. I don't care if thousands of donkeys are killed. As a public official, this is what I want," said the village elder.
In his impassioned speech, the Muhtar also harshly criticized animal rights defenders and those supporting the donkeys.
As a reminder, on Sunday, February 16, 500 meters northwest of a landfill in Dipkarpaz, poachers shot a herd of stray donkeys. The shocking crime resulted in the deaths of 16 donkeys, including a pregnant female who was shot while giving birth.
Following the discovery of the dead animals, the police launched an extensive investigation, which was personally overseen by the leader of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). Early last week, the police arrested four suspects, who have since appeared in court. One suspect was acquitted, and the others were released on bail.
