Man Jailed for Smashing Glass Door with Fire Extinguisher at Akçiçek Hospital
A man who caused a disturbance at the emergency department of Akçiçek Hospital in Girne, Northern Cyprus, by smashing a glass door with a fire extinguisher has been remanded in custody. He will spend the next 10 days behind bars.
The suspect, Mehmet Aslan, caused chaos at the hospital over the weekend.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of May 17, in the reception area of the emergency department. The 29-year-old patient, frustrated by what he claimed was an excessively long wait to be seen, began shouting and threw a fire extinguisher at the glass entrance door of the waiting room. He was arrested on the spot.
Aslan has been charged with intentional property damage and disturbing the peace. Initially, the court ordered a two-day detention.
At a subsequent hearing, the judge ruled to extend his custody for up to 10 days as a pre-trial detainee, to ensure his presence during legal proceedings.
