Tufan Erhürman to Take Oath on Friday: Schedule of Ceremonies and First Steps of the New President of the TRNC
The sixth President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Tufan Erhürman, will officially take office on Friday, taking the oath during an extraordinary session of the General Assembly of Parliament. Speaker of Parliament Ziya Öztürkler has convened the session for 09:30, after which the official ceremonies in the capital Nicosia will begin.
According to the approved agenda, immediately after taking the oath, the head of state will lay wreaths at the monument of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in Nicosia, followed by tributes at the memorials of Dr. Fazıl Küçük, leader of the Turkish Cypriot freedom movement, and the first President Rauf Raif Denktaş. After the commemorative ceremonies, the transfer of power from the outgoing administration to the new one will take place at the Presidential residence. The Vice President of Turkey, Cevdet Yılmaz, is expected to attend the events.
On the eve of the ceremonies, a key legal step was completed: on Monday, Erhürman received his certificate of election (mazbata) from the hands of the President of the Supreme Court and simultaneously Chairman of the Supreme Election Board (YSK), Bertan Özerdağ. The presentation took place at the Supreme Court building, marking the formal completion of the election process and clearing the way for the inauguration.
The TRNC presidential elections were held on October 19 and resulted in a confident victory for the leader of the Republican Turkish Party. The results are seen as a signal for a reset of domestic priorities and foreign policy direction. Upon receiving his certificate of election, Erhürman publicly emphasized his commitment to the Constitution and the rule of law as guiding principles of his administration’s work.
Friday’s organizational plan includes heightened security measures, logistics for protocol motorcades, and temporary closures in central areas of Nicosia. The parliamentary office requests guests to arrive early due to mandatory security checks. The President’s press group will announce the composition of the new team and the first decrees following the handover ceremony. It is expected that in the coming days, the administration will publish the schedule of meetings and priorities for the first 100 days. (Protocol schedule information confirmed by Parliament and accompanying official statements.)
