Turkey became the world leader in tea consumption

Turkey has taken first place in the world in per capita tea consumption. According to an international study, the average resident of the country drinks 3.16 kilograms of tea per year, making Turkey the absolute global leader in this indicator.
Ireland ranks second with 2.19 kg of tea per person per year, while the United Kingdom takes third place with 1.94 kg. The top five also include Russia (1.38 kg) and Morocco (1.22 kg).
Interestingly, countries traditionally associated with tea production are far from the top. Thus, in China—the world’s largest tea producer—per capita consumption is only 0.57 kg per year, and in India just 0.32 kg.
The lowest tea consumption is recorded in Mexico and Italy—0.14 kg per person per year. Slightly higher figures are seen in Spain (0.15 kg) and South Korea (0.17 kg).
Experts note that the high level of tea consumption in Turkey is linked not only to climate and product availability, but also to culture: tea here is not just a drink, but an integral part of everyday communication, hospitality, and social life.
