Over 4.5 Million Lira in Damages from Traffic Accidents in Northern Cyprus in One Week
In the span of just one week, Northern Cyprus recorded 75 road accidents, leaving 34 people injured. According to a report from the General Directorate of Police, 28 of the accidents resulted in injuries, while 47 caused only property damage. The total financial loss from these incidents was estimated at 4,542,102 Turkish lira.
The main causes of the accidents were identified as:

Speeding — 24 cases

Failing to stop at intersections — 15 cases

Careless driving — 16 cases

Not maintaining a safe distance — 13 cases

Other reasons — 7 cases
The highest number of accidents occurred in Nicosia (24), followed by Kyrenia (21), Famagusta (18), İskele (7), and Güzelyurt (5).
Over the course of the week, police carried out inspections on 10,415 drivers and vehicles. A total of 1,744 violations were recorded. Of these, 145 vehicles were taken off the road, and 6 drivers were arrested.

Additionally, 30 drivers were caught driving under the influence of alcohol.
