Fire Damage in Northern Cyprus Surpasses 1 Million Lira in Just One Week
Between April 21 and 27, Northern Cyprus witnessed 17 fires and 40 rescue incidents, as reported in the weekly update from the Police Headquarters. The total damage from these incidents amounted to a staggering 1,023,000 Turkish Lira.
The fires were attributed to various causes, including electrical short circuits, carelessly discarded cigarette butts, sparks from electrical wires, dry grass igniting, arson, fuel leaks from vehicle engines, and the burning of waste.
Beyond extinguishing the flames, firefighters were also involved in a range of rescue operations. They saved people trapped in cars following accidents, in apartment bedrooms, and in elevators. Additionally, they rescued cats stuck in vehicle engine compartments, elevators, and rainwater drainage pipes. The fire department also ensured road safety, implemented fire prevention measures, conducted training sessions, and transported the bodies of victims to the hospital for further criminal investigations.
