Belgium proposes to introduce a global wealth tax
Belgium has proposed introducing a "worldwide wealth tax." The funds raised could be directed towards defense needs and climate transition.
The leader of the Socialist Party of Belgium, Paul Magnette, advocated for this initiative in an interview with the Financial Times.
"If we want to finance the climate transition, we need money. This money will come from international corporations and individuals with enormous fortunes. Ideally, a global wealth tax should be introduced, or at least at the European level," the politician told RIA Novosti.
It is also reported that, according to the head of the Belgian socialist party, the demand for such a measure among the population of European countries is "very high."
