In Famagusta, Five Businesses Fined, One Closed for Hygiene Violations

In Famagusta, ahead of Ramadan, inspections were conducted at bakeries and flour-based product businesses. As a result of the inspections, five businesses were fined for staff lacking valid sanitary books, and one establishment was temporarily closed due to failure to comply with hygiene standards.
The inspections were carried out by Municipal Police officers in cooperation with representatives of the Chamber of Food Engineers. According to reports, businesses without sanitary books received an administrative fine equal to half of the gross minimum wage.
In addition, one facility where serious sanitary violations were identified was fined an amount equal to the full gross minimum wage, and its production activities were suspended until deficiencies are corrected.
The municipality emphasized that monitoring food quality and safety is conducted on a scientific and transparent basis and will continue throughout the month of Ramadan.
During inspections, special attention is paid to the sanitary condition of premises, personal hygiene of staff, storage conditions of raw materials and finished products, compliance with labeling rules, and conformity with current legislation.
Inspections also cover supermarkets, small shops, school canteens, and temporary trade points during festivals and events. Expired, unlabeled, or improperly stored products are confiscated and destroyed.
Municipal authorities stated that they will continue enhanced control to ensure residents have access to safe and quality food products.
