Renovation of the Kurish residential complex started in Kyrenia, Northern Cyprus — mayor announced
On January 10, 2026, Kyrenia Mayor Murat Şenkul announced via social media the start of reconstruction of the Kurish residential complex in the city center of Northern Cyprus.
According to him, the complex had long been in a state of ownership and management gap, creating an unsightly appearance. A group of owners united and created a temporary management, seeking assistance from the municipality.
As a result of a short circuit in the air conditioning electrical units, a fire broke out in the complex. The municipality took responsibility for organizing the restoration works; a payment plan was developed to cover costs, and work has already begun.
Şenkul noted that previously the municipality assisted in repairing a problematic building in the New Port area and will now focus on renovating the Kurish complex. This year, one or two more problematic residential complexes are also planned to be addressed to bring them to a city-worthy condition.
The mayor emphasized: “Our country does not have a problem with resources; the problem lies in organization and ownership; the principle is fewer words, more action.” For residents, this means the start of renovation works and a planned scheme for cost coverage for the owners.
