New Public Space to Be Created in Girne
Girne is set to welcome a new community space with the ongoing development of the “City House and Park” project, designed to offer a fresh, open environment for local residents.
Mayor Murat Şenkul shared updates on the project via his social media accounts. The initiative is being carried out on a plot of land granted to the municipality with the support of the “A-Zeytinlik” initiative and local residents, and approved by former Interior Minister Kutlu Evren.
The “City House” will be managed by the municipality’s Department of Social Affairs and is intended to serve as a hub for non-governmental organizations. It will also host a variety of community courses and events aimed at engaging people of all ages.
The project focuses on areas with dense residential housing and includes plans to create green spaces with playgrounds, walking paths, and fitness trails—catering to both children and adults.
In addition, an old olive mill located in the area will be restored and managed by the Municipality of Girne, preserving a piece of the region’s heritage while giving it new life as part of the community space.
“Thanks to this new investment, our city will gain a valuable public space,” said Mayor Şenkul, noting that the project is expected to be completed in the shortest possible time.
