A verdict has been delivered in Girne in the case of the shooting at a car in Çatalköy: 8 years and 6 months
The High Criminal Court in Girne in Northern Cyprus sentenced Görkem Mete to 8 years and 6 months in prison for shooting at a car in Çatalköy. The decision was announced on 28 November 2025.
The court established that on 11 May 2025 at 13:00 on Mersinli Street in Çatalköy, Mete fired four shots at a Range Rover parked in the yard of the home of N.I. (a 24-year-old man).
Forty minutes after the incident, Mete was detained in a taxi. It was also confirmed that he entered the TRNC on 11 May 2025.
The defendant indicated the location of the weapon. As evidence, an Austrian-made Glock pistol, two socks and one T-shirt were seized.
According to the investigation, Mete contacted a person in Turkey through the messenger “Telegram” and agreed on a payment of 250,000 Turkish lira to come to the TRNC to commit the crime. The court noted that similar incidents have become more frequent in the country, causing concern, and imposed a sentence of 8 years and 6 months in prison.
