Four people detained in Girne over counterfeit dollar case
Northern Cyprus police have detained four people in connection with the distribution of counterfeit dollars at an exchange office in Girne.
According to the police, a 23-year-old man went to the exchange office and handed over 1,850 US dollars, consisting of 37 bills of 50 dollars, which were allegedly counterfeit. In exchange, he received 81,960 Turkish Liras in cash.
After the incident was reported to the police, an investigation was launched. During the process, three more suspects aged 19, 21, and 28, who are believed to be connected to the case, were detained.
During searches, another 9,850 dollars (171 bills of 50 dollars and 13 bills of 100 dollars), also suspected to be counterfeit, were found in the suspects' possession.
In total, police seized 11,700 dollars and 81,960 Turkish Liras as evidence.
The investigation is ongoing.
