Russian Man Jailed in Kyrenia for Drunken Hotel Rampage

A Russian man is facing trial in Kyrenia for causing a drunken disturbance at a local hotel, brandishing a knife, and shouting loudly.

According to the investigation, the incident occurred around 4 AM on July 13. The intoxicated Russian citizen entered a hotel on Erdal Akça Street, loudly shouting and waving a 19 cm long knife, frightening the guests. He then went to the second floor, broke down a room door, and subsequently broke a wooden table on the fourth-floor terrace. The total damage was around 17,000 Turkish lira.

The next day, police tracked down and detained the troublemaker. He was found in possession of the same knife he had brandished the previous night. That same day, the man appeared before the Kyrenia District Court, which remanded him in custody for three days for further investigation.

During this time, surveillance footage was reviewed, and witness statements were obtained. The immigration investigation revealed that the suspect had arrived on the island a year earlier, on July 12, 2023.

The man appeared in court again the day before. He was charged with "intentional damage, carrying a knife for intimidation, drunkenness, disorderly conduct, and inappropriate behavior." In court, the Russian expressed remorse and stated that he regretted the incident.

The police stated that the suspect had no ties to the island and requested that he remain in custody.

The judge ruled to send him to jail for a term not exceeding 15 days.
