In Girne, an 18-year-old boy was detained after a fight
In Girne, police are investigating a serious incident in which a young man sustained severe injuries and was hospitalized.
According to law enforcement, the conflict occurred late in the evening. A verbal altercation between two young men escalated within minutes into physical violence. During the fight, the 18-year-old suspect inflicted multiple blows to the victim's face and head.
The 20-year-old victim was taken to the hospital, where doctors diagnosed a fractured cheekbone and serious facial injuries. Medical staff describe his condition as serious but stable. He remains under medical supervision.
The suspect was promptly detained by the police and taken into custody. He is currently awaiting further procedural actions. Investigators are determining the cause of the conflict and are checking whether the participants were under the influence of alcohol or other substances — there is no official confirmation yet.
Law enforcement is also establishing whether there were any witnesses to the incident and whether surveillance cameras recorded it. At this stage, police emphasize that this is a case of intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm, and the investigation is ongoing.
It is expected that in the coming days the court will consider measures of restraint for the detained individual.
