In Lapta, the "Camelot" beach has been transferred to military control: entry for civilians is closed

The public "Camelot" beach in Lapta (Lapta, Girne district) has officially come under the management of military structures. It has recently become known that the area is now closed to civilian visitors, including students and local residents who previously frequented this popular recreational spot.
For a long time, "Camelot" beach was managed by Girne American University (GAU), which maintained the area and its infrastructure. However, in recent years, the university has faced financial challenges, making the maintenance of the beach unprofitable. As a result, the facility was handed over to the military authorities, who now fully control access to the territory.
The decision came as a surprise to Lapta residents and students. "It was one of the most scenic and accessible places nearby, especially for students who couldn't afford expensive private beaches," local residents say.
Previously, "Camelot" was considered one of the most popular beaches in the region: convenient sea access, a spacious area and beautiful views made it attractive for locals and tourists. Now, according to sources, entry to the beach is allowed only for official use.
Local authorities have not yet commented on the transfer of the site, but social media users are increasingly discussing the possibility of appealing to the Lapta municipality to keep at least part of the coastline open to the public.
