A court in Nicosia has sentenced a man who broke into someone else's hotel room and stole money and personal belongings. The accused, Mert Onur Güden, was sentenced to six months in prison.

According to the case file, the incident occurred on January 3, 2026, at a hotel on Gazeteci Kemal Aşık Street. While intoxicated, the man convinced hotel staff that room 303 belonged to him, thereby gaining access to the room.

Once inside, he stole 30,000 Turkish Liras, 40 US Dollars, a leather wallet, seven bank cards, and a Redmi Note 11 Pro mobile phone from a guest.

Later that same day, the suspect was found at the hotel, and all the stolen money and items were found in his possession. The court took into account that the stolen property was returned, the victim withdrew the complaint, and the accused cooperated with the investigation and expressed remorse.

Despite this, the court emphasized the seriousness of such crimes against property and sentenced the accused to six months of imprisonment.
