Another person arrested in Lefkoşa, Northern Cyprus, in document forgery case
In Lefkoşa, Northern Cyprus, another person has been arrested as part of an investigation into the falsification of official documents. The suspect, R.K., appeared in court on 8 January 2026.
Police officer Mehmet Koray Sözer told the court that R.K. paid 12,000 Turkish lira to obtain a “white identification card” to the muhtar of the Yeniceami district, S.Ö., his wife K.Ö., who works as an accountant, and A.Y.A. According to the officer, these individuals prepared forged rental agreements and residence certificates in the name of R.K.
After the forged contracts were approved by the Lefkoşa Tax Office, the documents were submitted to the police Immigration Department and used to issue an identity card to R.K. The investigation, which began in December 2025, has so far led to the arrest of 25 people. Suspects in four separate cases have been brought before the court and released on bail.
Police noted that R.K. entered the country on a 90-day visa and is a pensioner insured in the TRNC. Judge Şevket Gazi ruled that the suspect must post 20,000 Turkish lira in cash as bail, one guarantor must sign a surety of 500,000 lira, travel abroad is prohibited, and weekly reporting is required for monitoring. R.K. stated in court that he intends to live in Northern Cyprus during his retirement.
