In Lefkoşa, two detained with 35 g of synthetic cannabinoids and 1 g of methamphetamine
According to police, on September 7, 2025, around 21:30 on Rauf Denktaş Street in Lefkoşa, a patrol from the Crime Prevention Department stopped two men — Lefkoşa resident M.D. and Güzelyurt resident A.H. — for inspection. During a personal search, approximately 35 grams of suspected synthetic cannabinoids, about 1 gram of suspected methamphetamine, and one electronic precision scale with traces of substances were found and seized.
The police report that the suspects were detained on site and a criminal case was initiated against them. With a Lefkoşa Criminal Court warrant, the homes of M.D. and A.H. were searched; no prohibited substances were found in the houses. The seized samples were sent to the State Chemical Laboratory to determine type and weight, and inquiries were sent to the Medicines and Pharmacy Directorate to check for possible storage permits. Evidence regarding packaging and storage will be examined in the police photo and fingerprint department.
Judge Şevket Gazi ordered the suspects to be held in custody for 3 days; the investigation requested an extension. For Northern Cyprus residents, this indicates increased street inspections and heightened police attention to drug circulation — detention and the presence of substances result in immediate arrest and legal procedures.
