Truck Driver Detained in Nicosia After Testing Positive for Methamphetamine
In Nicosia, on the ring road on March 25 around 7:00 PM, police detained truck driver Salih Güler, who had parked his vehicle in the middle of the roadway and tested positive for drugs during a check.
Police officer Ferdi Temelaydın stated in court that authorities responded to a report of a truck stopped in the middle of the road. Officers noted that the driver was speaking incoherently and having difficulty maintaining balance, after which he was taken to the Nicosia traffic police department for testing. The breathalyzer test showed zero, but a rapid saliva test detected methamphetamine. Following this, the suspect was detained.
The officer also reported that the suspect refused to provide a blood sample. The investigation plans to interview witnesses and review surveillance footage. The prosecution requested one-day custody and the seizure of the driver's license.
Judge Şevket Gazi granted the request: Salih Güler has been remanded in custody for 24 hours, and his driver's license has been seized. The investigation continues as police carry out necessary procedures.
