Two students detained in Nicosia after drug seizure in dormitory
Two students have been detained following the discovery of narcotic substances in a dormitory room on a university campus in the Haspolat area of Nicosia, Northern Cyprus. The suspects — C.I.N. (M-22) and S.F.O. (M-21) — were arrested on the night of April 4, 2026.
According to police data, the room search was conducted between 23:00 and 23:45. During the check, a substance suspected to be marijuana, weighing approximately 0.5 grams and wrapped in aluminum foil, was found in the first suspect's vest pocket; while inspecting the area where the second suspect was located, a similar substance weighing approximately 1 gram was found in a cigarette pack in the bed. Both items were seized as evidence, and the arrests were made on suspicion of the crime of "acquisition and possession of a narcotic substance."
The suspects were brought to court on charges of drug possession and use; the investigation is ongoing. The police requested three additional days for investigation, case materials and seized samples have been sent for forensic examination, and the court granted the petition.
The investigation into the case continues, and further details will be published as official information becomes available.
