The TRNC Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources has released the results of food safety inspections conducted between February 13 and 19. Laboratory analyses revealed that several local products exceeded the permissible limits for plant protection products.

According to the department, samples of both imported and local products were tested. All 35 samples of imported goods were found to be clean, with no pesticide violations detected.

Of the 25 samples of local produce, 20 were found to be in compliance. However:

  • Mandora mandarins (Güzelyurt),
  • Strawberries (Yıldırım),
  • Peppers (Kuzucuk)

Were found to have exceeded allowable pesticide levels. Harvesting at these specific producers has been suspended pending repeat analysis results.

Additionally, cucumbers from a producer in Famagusta were found to contain an unauthorized chemical. The produce was seized and destroyed.

The assessment was carried out in accordance with the European Union's maximum residue limit (MRL) table for pesticides.
