In Nicosia, Drunk Driver Crashed into Billboard and Buildings: Two Injured
According to the police press service, the accident occurred on February 9, 2026, around 03:00 in Lefkoşa on Şehit Mustafa Ahmet Ruso Street.
22-year-old driver Berkem Darbaz, who had 60 milligrams of alcohol in his blood, was traveling north in the left lane. Near the Mezzaluna restaurant, he lost control of the vehicle, drove onto the sidewalk, and crashed into a billboard of one of the businesses.
After the first impact, the car continued and collided with the garage gates of another establishment, and then hit a concrete column, where it came to a stop.
As a result of the accident, the driver and 24-year-old passenger Murat Şarman were injured. Both were taken to the Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Nicosia, where, after receiving medical care, they were kept under observation by doctors.
The police continue to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
