On the night of August 11 to 12, 2025, an incident involving an axe took place in the Northern Cypriot village of Yeşilırmak, resulting in one person sustaining serious injuries.
According to the police, a conflict arose between 44-year-old T.Ç. and 33-year-old S.F.F., which escalated into a fight on Şehit Günfer Hasan Street. Witnesses report that during the quarrel, the men exchanged blows and shouted loudly, attracting the attention of passersby.
Afterwards, S.F.F. left the scene but soon returned with two axes, which he had stored illegally. Entering the restaurant where T.Ç. was located, he struck him on the head with an axe with the intent to cause serious harm.
The victim was immediately taken to the Çengiz Topel State Hospital and later transferred to Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Nicosia. Doctors diagnosed a skull fracture, and he was admitted to the neurosurgery department for observation and treatment.
The police detained the suspect and are investigating the circumstances of the incident. The motives for the attack have not yet been disclosed.
This incident has once again drawn attention to safety issues and law enforcement challenges in Northern Cyprus, as well as the dangers of using cold weapons in domestic conflicts.
