A forest fire has broken out in the Dikmen (Kyrenia) area

On August 20, 2025, a forest fire occurred in the Dikmen area, located in a mountainous region. The fire started around 11:15 and quickly spread over an area of approximately 10 dunums, affecting dry grass, vegetation, and pine trees. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Fire services, Civil Defense personnel, the Forestry Department, military personnel, as well as staff from the Dikmen municipality and local residents, promptly arrived at the scene. Both ground forces and aviation were used to extinguish the fire: a helicopter provided by the Cyprus Security Command was deployed. In total, 136 people and 51 pieces of equipment participated in the operation, including fire trucks, water carriers, tractors, and drones.
Thanks to the coordinated work of all services, the fire was contained within an hour, and there was no threat to nearby settlements. Cooling operations at the fire sites are currently ongoing to prevent re-ignition. Police have initiated an investigation into the cause of the incident.
