In September, the cost of living in Northern Cyprus rose by 5.39%, and annual inflation reached 39.20%

The Statistical Institute of Northern Cyprus published consumer price index data for September 2025. According to the report, compared to August, the cost of living increased by 5.39%, and on an annual basis — compared to September 2024 — the rise was 39.20%.
Out of 586 goods and services included in the consumer basket, prices fell for 69 items, while most goods and services became more expensive.
The largest increases in September were observed in the categories “clothing and footwear,” “food and non-alcoholic beverages,” as well as “housing, utilities, and fuel.” These groups of goods and services had the main impact on the overall inflation rate.
Economists emphasize that the current price growth reflects the general trend of recent months, associated with rising import costs, currency fluctuations, and increased production costs. At the same time, annual inflation remains high, although far from the catastrophic values sometimes mistakenly reported in the media.
The government and economic experts agree that stabilizing the situation requires measures to support vulnerable segments of the population and control prices on essential goods.
